Patch Notes - Beta 0.4.0


We interrupt your daily grub to bring you a new Potatostrike patch. 

Patch 0.4.0 rebalances pretty much all weapons in the game. Either directly or indirectly, the efficiency of every gun and ordnance in the Potatostrike's arsenal has been improved. We have small tweaks, big tweaks, major redesigns, you name it!

Additionally, enemy weapons have also been slightly adjusted. Projectiles move slightly slower (about 2 pixels per frame slower on average), and they have a longer cooldown between bursts. It should be easier to retaliate and dodge attacks from here on out.

Here's a full list of patch notes:

Visuals:

  • Increased the thickness of the Experience bar from 2 to 3.
  • Increased the thickness of the Boss Health bar from 2 to 3.
  • Weapon and upgrade information has been updated to reflect the rebalancing changes.
  • Modified enemy spread plasma weapons to appear red and have a different firing sound.

Changes:

  • Reduced the item drop pitty rate from 2% per enemy killed down to 1%.
  • Ordnance starts with 3 ammo.
  • Replaced the Brawlers in the second part of Mission 1 with Gladiators.
  • Replaced red plasma weapons with standard plasma ones (they move slower and look purple).
  • Enemy shields no longer absorb excess damage when broken. Instead, that damage is now applied to the hull.
    • Indirectly buffs 37mm Cannon, Wave, Missiles, Bombs, and Rockets.

Balancing:

  • 23mm Cannon:
    • Now fires two projectiles in separate directions at base.
    • Still gains 1 additional projectile when leveling up.
    • Decreased spread angle compared to its previous iteration.
    • Decreased the fire rate from 12 down to 10.
  • Plasma Cannon:
    • Increased the damage of projectiles from 1 up to 2.
    • Increased the width of the projectile's wave movement.
  • Shotgun:
    •  Increased the fire rate from 4 up to 5.
  • 37mm Cannon:
    • Burst fire has been replace with full auto fire.
    • Old upgrade values replaced.
    • Now gains fire rate and 1 damage when leveling up.
  • Laser Beam:
    • Increased duration from 12 up to 22.
    • Decreased the fire rate from 1.33 down to 1.2.
    • Now gains 10 duration when leveling up
    • Laser Beam no longer increases its damage when leveling up.
  • Missiles
    • Decreased the damage from 4 (+4) down to 2 (+2).
    • Decreased the fire rate from 2 down to 1.
    • Decreased the total ammo from 15 down to 10.
    • Now fires a burst of 3 homing missiles instead of a single one. Each bursts consumes 1 unit of ammo.
    • Now gains 1 (+1) damage and +1 burst length when leveling up.
    • No longer gains +1 projectile when leveling up.
  • Bombs:
    • Increased the damage from 1 (+4) up to 2 (+6).
    • Now gains 1 (+3) damage when leveling up.
    • Increased the damage of redirected projectiles from 2 up to 4.
  • Rockets:
    • Increased the fire rate from 1 up to 2.
    • Increased the total ammo from 5 up to 10.
    • Now gains +20 damage when leveling up.
    • No longer gains +1 projectile when leveling up.
  • Enemies:
    • Reduced the speed of enemy projectiles by 2-3, depending on the weapon.
    • Reduced the speed of Stingers (melee ships in Mission 2) by 2.
    • Decreased the rate of fire of the Spinners (round drones that fire in a spiral) from 12 down to 10.
    • Increased the delay between bursts for the Brawler, Gladiator, Hunter (basic enemies), Scout, and Scout 2 (small enemies).
    • Increased the health of bosses by varying amounts.

Technical Changes:

  • Missiles, Rockets, and Bombs no longer have a flight sound due to a bug pending a fix.
